What happened to "Paid"?

For the last few weeks, I've been seeing "payed" almost everywhere I browse. But the one that caught my attention was some professional articles and linkedin posts also used that filthy word.
Did I miss something? Has "payed" already been added to the official English word as the participle form of "pay", as in being given money for work?
Top Comment: Pay > Past tense is > Paid For people who work around ships: Pay is a verb that means to seal a ship for water leaks. The past tense is "payed". Example: I payed the entire hull so we shouldn't worry about sinking. TLDR: "Payed" should NOT be used to replace "Paid" Paid = money, cash, payment Payed = sealed a ship for water leaks
Paid for posting on reddit

Hi all I have been mostly reading/watching reddit forums through YouTube and instagram and just seen payment options in profile.
Are there people that use reddit as a full time job and why do reddit payout people for discussing stuff on here ?
Top Comment: I am unaware of anyone paid by Reddit as an employee to participate in Reddit. There are Admins, paid employees of Reddit but they work behind the scenes. They aren't just hanging out commenting, they're dealing with reports and tweaking filters and such. There is the Contributor Program which is a way to monetize a successful reddit account. You get paid out depending on earning Reddit gold, which comes from other users using awards on your posts and comments. Those awards cost money. It takes a lot of awards to qualify. Technically you could say these folks are paid by Reddit. It seems a fairly small population of folks who might pull thjs off. There are almost certainly accounts paid by third parties who aren't Reddit to post/comment on Reddit. As marketing or attempts to influence folks. But these aren't paid by Reddit itself. Like it's a common insult that someone is "a paid shill of..." Whatever the cause is under discussion. Edit spelling

I recently noticed that Reddit has a contributor program where you can earn money if you are a top contributor, i.e., earn 1,000 gold and 100 karma after receiving your first gold. I’m just curious to know if anyone is making money through this program. If so, approximately how much?
